Inc.
Michigan Community Insurance Agency, Inc.
(MCIA) began as the William A. Wood Insurance
Agency in 1927. The agency was incorporated May 25, 1966 and the name was
changed to Wood-Gibbs & Associates on January 4, 1971.
On June 1, 1996, The Sovel Insurance Agency, Inc, founded by Robert L. Sovel
in 1961 merged with Wood-Gibbs & Associates and the agency name was
changed to Michigan Community Insurance Agency, Inc.
On February 1, 2001 MCIA purchased the Bowden & Associates Agency.
With a growing Life and Health business, MCIA decided to create a separate
Life and Health Insurance Agency called Michigan Community Benefits, LLC on
April 1, 2003.
August 1, 2003, MCIA purchased the Alex J. Thomson & Son Agency (Established
in 1919).
In 2005, Michigan Community Benefits, LLC
created a Financial Services Department.
Today the agency has expanded to over 20 employees and continues to grow.
